Factory horn sucked as you may recall, so I installed a set of PIAA Superior Bass horns today. Much better.

I was kind of hoping it would be a train horn.

I had to replace the horn on my Mazda5 after I drowned it on the freeway one night. Rather than buying an expensive OEM part I grabbed something at the junkyard at random. The original is buried way down low and I didn’t feel like removing the bumper cover to get to it so I mounted it up high in the engine compartment, at least on a temporary basis (which is going on 4 years now). It didn’t have a good ground where I mounted it so I used a jumper wire with some alligator clips to make it work, another temporary fix that I haven’t fixed yet. It got me through the safety inspection so I was happy, and it’s been fine for years.
The best part? It sounds just like the horn in my old Vanagon, and I loved the sound of that one . I didn’t choose it for the sound - it was just a happy accident that it was exactly the horn I wanted.
